Abstract

This study's objective is to ascertain the empirical relationship between employability skills and career success of medical doctors in Port Harcourt. The study used a survey design, which made it possible to collect data from the study's target population within a set amount of time. There are over 3000 estimated medical doctors in Port Harcourt. Therefore, using the Krejcie and Morgan table, 341 formed the sample size of this study. The convenience sampling method was used in the investigation from which 341 copies of questionnaire were administered to doctors in different hospitals and health centres in Port Harcourt. To analyse and test the hypotheses, the Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient was utilized. In conclusion, the study opined that employability skills in the areas of problem-solving and leadership are crucial to the career success of medical doctors in Port Harcourt. It is therefore recommended that in order to enable medical doctors to achieve career adaptability, for career success, management teams should prioritize problem-solving skills to: i. enable doctors to achieve career adaptability on one hand, and government should regularly implement training programs to enhance doctor’s leadership abilities. Doctors with leadership skills are bound to be more successful in their careers than those lacking leader-ship skill, hence hospital management should be left with those with identified leadership skills. Management teams should regularly implement training programmes to enhance doctors’ leader-ship abilities.
